Based upon manuscript evidence, critical editions of primary sources and the published studies of many eminent scholars, these pages present consecutive tables showing the history of the transmission of the gospel in Syriac. The historical context, literary historical details and the chronology of the Eastern and Western Syrian Christians have all been included to provide a concise background to the history of the Syriac gospel. I believe in Jesus Christ, so I have preferred the familiar AD anno Domini Christian system of dates instead of the apostatical CE, 'current era' format. The AD dating system was invented by a sixth century monk called 'Dennis-the-short' in 532 AD. Dennis said that he invented it to draw attention to the Lord Jesus as the Saviour of all mankind. Dennis' exact words survive, they can be found quoted in [5], page 100 and the episode is also mentioned in [7], page 63.
